Born in the shadow of submarines, in Barrow-in-Furness, Jake McCullough grew up where hard work was expected and creativity had to be claimed.
At a very young age, Jake found his way to music. It wasn’t long before his musical curiosity became complete devotion. Hours of daily practice taught him patience, performance taught him presence of mind, and failures taught him humility. Music became more than a creative outlet — it became an education in discipline and expression. He learned a quiet truth: mastery can never come from being rushed. He would later formalise this path through multiple music diplomas and a Professional Musicianship Degree from BIMM Manchester, but the deeper lessons were learned long before any certificate was earned.
As life unfolded, so too did Jake’s curiosity. He became fascinated by how people grow, why people struggle, why particular audiences are drawn to certain music, and what allows some individuals to live with clarity while others feel perpetually adrift. This curiosity led him into the study of nutrition, coaching, psychology, marketing, data science and philosophy — not as disconnected subjects, but as parts of a greater puzzle.
Over time, Jake began to identify patterns. One pattern emerged continuously: the challenges people face rarely belong to a single category… Health is shaped by mindset. Mindset is shaped by environment. Environment is shaped by the values, the habits and the stories we tell ourselves. Real change, he learned, doesn’t happen in silos — it happens through deliberate integration.
At the heart of Jake’s work is a holistic approach to wellbeing. He specialises in holistic and plant-based nutrition, mindfulness, philosophy, ethics and lifestyle design; guiding people to work with their biology, not against it. He speaks often about balance as an ongoing conversation between effort and rest; ambition and acceptance; discipline and compassion.
As a lifelong student of wisdom traditions, Jake has spent years studying Universal Hermetic principles, Stoicism and other ancient philosophies. What drew him to these teachings was originally the mysticism surrounding the subjects, yet he regularly speaks of how practical these subjects of study became for him as he grew.
Jake’s gift lies in translating such timeless insights into language that feels relevant, grounded and immediately applicable to modern life. He used these teachings in his own life to go from being a typical mid-income worker in a boring job (with a few failed relationships to add insult to injury), to identifying his now fiancée, authoring his first book, ditching the boring job and building The Centre of Mastery.
As an author, Jake sees writing as an act of service. He is deeply committed to making complex ideas understandable — never by oversimplifying, but by meeting people where they are; allowing his readers and event audiences to make up their minds. His work is created for those who are curious, thoughtful and quietly searching for something more grounded than the motivational noise coating the social media algorithms. He believes clarity is kindness, and that good ideas should empower.
Alongside philosophy and wellbeing, Jake brings a strong background in marketing, strategy and optimisation. Years spent working with data, systems and user behaviour taught him how intention becomes action — and why it so often doesn’t. He applies these same principles to human development, helping individuals and organisations to align their values, standards and goals with their daily choices. In his work, insight is only the beginning; implementation is where the greater transformation lives.
It is in Jake McCullough’s books, public speaking events and coaching where all of these threads come together. Jake works to help individuals to find meaningful change through knowledge, intent, perspective and experience. His approach is supportive and honest. Rather than offering rigid prescriptions, he helps people build self-trust by developing habits that support long-term wellbeing. Attendees of the speaking events often describe his style as calm, thoughtful and quietly challenging — the kind that stays with you long after the event ends.
As mentioned, Jake is also the founder of the Centre of Mastery, which is a community-driven initiative devoted to self-mastery. It exists to bring depth back into personal development — blending science with wisdom; structure with soul. Through books, talks, workshops and digital resources, it invites people into a lifelong practice of growth, rather than a fleeting pursuit of optimisation.
Public speaking is a large section of Jake’s work. Drawing on his musical background, he brings rhythm, warmth and presence to the stage. His talks are known for being thoughtful without being heavy, and practical without being shallow. Whether speaking to individuals, teams or organisations, his aim is always the same: to help people leave with something they can integrate into their life.
Underlying everything Jake does is a simple belief — that mastery is a relationship with oneself, with one’s values, and with the way time and attention are spent. Through coaching, writing and community, Jake McCullough helps people turn intent into action, and self-mastery into a way of life.
